Main purpose was to suck out the oxygen from a cave bunker or a tunnel, and thus incapacitate the enemies who were in there. Many didn't even have burn wounds.

The germans used firefighters to field tge flamethrowers, cause we arent scared of fire and we know how to burn shit down with maximum effectiveness. Remember there are more pyromaniacs per capita in the fire service than the general population...

A shame in Ukraine the use original WW2 US 105 howitzers now, the belong in a War museum or on a reenactment event and not in a recent battle field.

There was a video on UA-cam which showed a Japanese soldier come out of a bunker completely on fire except for his eyes. He throws himself in the first puddle, but it's only an inch deep. My wife's great uncle did flamethrower training in New Guinea during WW2. He was an Australian soldier. Guess that he used US equipment ??

I can relate. My older brother got me interested in hunting and sport shooting. I then gravitated toward the old war surplus firearms, as they were inexpensive when compared to new commercial arms. After acquiring a German WWII Mauser rifle my father gave me the German Army belt buckle that he brought back from North Africa. Away I went! Soon I found myself hosting the first ever WWII re-enactment, an event that Jim Osborne attended. In 2009, my 60th birthday present to myself was a trip to Europe. I visited my grandparents home towns, a lot of museums, the place where a relative crashed his P-38 during the Battle of the Bulge. I too visited the Berghof and walked Hitler's favorite hike to his teahouse overlook.

Sorry to say that both Rommel tunics are fakes. Last I know all uniforms are still with the family. A lot of 'big name' uniforms have been built throught years with added tailor labels etc. The (militaria) antiques market is very corrupt. The Panzermuseum at Munster, Germany, also had a Rommel tunic on display for decades. A few years ago they clarified to the public that they had no firm provenance of the piece and that also no contemporary photos of Rommel with that tunic existed. Rommel's Knight's Cross with Oakleves, Swords and Diamonds, along with other items is on loan by the family to the State Museum of Baden Würtenberg in Stuttgart. Iron clad provenance is very important in collecting. Otherwise you're in for an unpleasant surprise...

I bet the operator did not last long if they were caught by the enemy. There are accounts from most wars that flamethrower operators were executed on the spot if captured by the enemy.

The flame thrower is still very effective. Used against trapped fortified areas. When grenades wont reach. Awsome friends.

I would really love to see a napalm demonstration. Its a totally different monster. I’ve only ever seen it used in WWII footage but it looks absolutely sinister. I imagine the Japanese were more terrified of the napalm rods getting beamed at them than the gasoline bursts
